This past weekend I took the girls to go see my sister in Austin. Aunt Angela would watch the kids while I went and shot an IDPA match in Austin.

I always get nervous before matches. I was extra nervous because I was going to a new range and would not know any of the other competitors. The guys from Texas Tactical welcomed me and were very nice. I’ve been shooting IDPA for about two years now, but I went to the new shooters meeting because they asked for new shooters and shooters that had never shot with the club. There I got introduced to BUBBA. Great guy who gave the best new shooters brief I have ever heard. He was informative, stressed safety, gave clear / simple instructions and was funny. Bubba turned out to be my Safety Officer as I was in his squad. The match was really well run. I’ll be back to shoot again with this club.

What is IDPA?

IDPA is a safe & fun shooting sport that emphasizes the use of Practical equipment to solve simulated “Real Life” scenarios. The main goal of IDPA is to test the skills and ability of the individual shooter.

Who may participate in these matches?

Any “SAFE” shooter may participate in these matches!! We have shooters of all ages , shapes and sizes. We have shooters of all different skill levels from Novice to Master!

What equipment do I need to participate?

You will need very little in the way of equipment:

1. A serviceable handgun of at least 9mm / .38special or larger caliber.
2. At least 3 magazines or speedloaders.
3. A strong side hip holster.
4. Eye and Ear Protection.
5. 100 Rounds of Ammunition
6. A good attitude and a willingness to have FUN!!
7. $25 Match Fee

Fun weekend. The girls had a blast playing with Aunt Angela. My sister is an amazing Aunt. She loves Emily and Katherine. It is nice that I have family only a couple of hours away.
